It was past midnight and I couldn’t sleep. After a few more toss and turns, I got up from my bed. Sqeaking as my weight rolled off the tiny mattress. I heard the slamming of a door. Then two voices yelling. One belonged to a woman and the other to a man. I leaned closer to my door. Their yelling got louder. Each was blaming the other for something that was missing…a locket. They were yelling about a locket? Lockets can be bought anywhere. I opened my door and peeked out into the hallway.
I could see them separating to their own quarters. Slowly, I creep out onto the hard polished wood floor. I crept closer and closer to a light down the hall. It was a tiny light. What could light up and be so tiny?
My curiosity was beaming. Inching my way, I almost jumped out of my skin. Kelly came out giving me a fright. I almost let out a scream. One that would bring us both into so much trouble. I wasn’t to be out of my room unless authorized. Yet, here I was, walking the hallway.
“Kelly, do you see the light?” I asked.
“No, I dunno what you’re talking about. What light?” She asked looking for what I saw.
“There, at the end of the hallway.” I instructing her and pin pointing the direction with my finger.
“No, I still dunno what you’re seeing but you better go to bed before you get caught.”
“I see a light. I am going to investigate it.”
“I dunno. I think you’re dreaming.” Kelly went back into her room and closed the door.
Walking I cotinued my pace…and there behold was indeed a locket. A glowing locket. I gently bent down fascinated at what was before me. I carefully, stretch out my hand and snatch it just when Miss Hormell came out. A bright light encased me and the locket. Everything else was gone. Before I knew it, I was no longer in the hallway. I was standing in hot ground that felt good beneath my bare feet. Looking to my right there was water splashing onto the hot ground. I stood there memerized. What was it? More importantly where was I?
“Claire!” Shouted Professor Snow.
I opened my eyes, and I realized I must have fallen asleep, during his lectures. His voice was dull and hard to pay attention. I felt heat come over my face.
“I’m sorry, Professor Snow. I don’t feel too well. I didn’t mean to…”
“Well, then don’t fall asleep again or else…”
Glancing downward, I noticed a glow. I placed my hand into my dress’s pocket and low and behold there indeed was a locket. Not just any locket but the one that glowed. Somehow, I found the energy to pay attention to everything Professor Snow had to say. Who knows what will happen tomorrow, dreams were endless.
