Review: The Thing Is

Synopsis:

Meredith Mancuso is depressed. Ever since the death of her fiancé, she has shrunk from the world. Even with her successful writing career, she’s not motivated to work. When her sister, Monica, begs for a favor, Meredith wants nothing more than to say no. But she’s ultimately roped into pet-sitting an orphaned Yorkshire terrier named Prozac. Blessed with spiritual wisdom and a high IQ, Prozac is an active pet therapy dog. To heal broken-hearted Meredith, he rallies his fan club at Evergreen Gardens, an independent living facility, where he visits each week. Prozac and the community of resilient older folks challenged by losses of their own, propel Meredith, often against her will, back into the land of the living. Meredith learns that most people carry some sort of burden, but it’s still possible to find meaning, purpose, and joy—and sometimes, even love—along the way.

Review:

The Thing Is by Kathleen Gerard is a romantic comedy that will make readers cry, laugh, and fall deeply in love just like I did. There’s a young woman who suffered a great loss on her nineteenth birthday…the loss of her fiance. A jerk giving them a hard time threw a rock that hit her fiance’s head causing him to fall to his death. A sad tragedy. Meredith is an author working on her latest novel…but has lost the heart to write and to live anymore. Until fate brings an adorable super cute Terrier named Prozac into her life. The puppy immediately transforms her life by forcing Meredith to get off her mourning butt and to fed, wash, and take care of Prozac. Prozac is an unwelcomed gift to Meredith at first and doesn’t like her at all..until he takes a second look at the woman and her life. It’s then that the puppy realizes that she’s suffering from the pain, of losing a loved one. Readers like myself are taken on a journey of healing, friendship, and love. Kathleen Gerard brings humor and romance into a beautiful story. I was able to easily connect with all of the characters and loved following their journey as the tale unfolded. The story is told from Prozac’s point of view which is kind of refreshing and interesting. Prozac is a dog that has been reincarnated many times before. Overall, I highly recommend The Thing Is to readers worldwide.
