The New York Times bestselling author of Big Girl Panties puts a modern twist on My Fair Lady in this funny, romantic confection in which a canny young woman makes over her awkward millionaire client . . . with some hot, sexy, and surprising results.
Suffocating in a dead-end marriage, Midwesterner Zoey Sullivan fled to New York and moved in with her little sister Ruth, a carefree, vivacious beauty with a string of eligible bachelors at her beck and call. But despite his firm body, handsome looks, and piles of cash, Tristan—a computer programmer—is shy and more than a little socially awkward. Zoey is sure that Tristan has all the right raw ingredients—and she’s the right person to spice them up turn him into a delectable dish.
But Zoey’s unprepared for just how well her makeover works. Tristan turns out to be even sexier once he’s gained a little confidence and the right wardrobe. Beneath the gorgeous package, Tristan is a great guy who deserves a woman who really appreciates him. Slowly but surely, Zoey realizes she may have found her perfect match—but does Tristan even know how her feelings have changed? Is that warm look in his eyes gratitude for the new and exciting world she’s ushered him into, or something more? And what will happen when Zoey’s ex comes to town, looking to win her back?
Stephanie Evanovich has wowed me with her latest book. Under the Table caught my attention instantly. It was funny from the beginning. Charming tale with lessons to learn. It warmed my heart how to innocent characters have been taken advantage of and yet both end up saving each other. They were perfect for one another. Charming, sweet, and determined to find their happiness, these characters took hold of my heart.
Zoey spent her life with a man who never cared about her. He abused her love, honor, and respect. Zoey found a way to escape him and live her life. That new life of hers included cooking. Being a chef has it awards and risks. It also led her to a sexy yet wealthy man.
Tristan was a sweet surprising twist. He broke the mold for alpha heroes everywhere. He isn’t just a wealthy smart stud. Tristan was full of generosity, kindness, and an innocence never found in a man. He needed saving, too. A woman like Zoey helped him see and believe in himself. Second chances at happiness are found inside this book. Tristan helped Zoey believe in love and marriage again.
Overall, I found this read entertaining. It was encouraging from the start. Inspiring others to believe in themselves. To want something, one must fight for it. That is the lesson these characters found. Whether they got it or not, is something for readers to find. I laughed, cried, and fell in love with Zoey and Tristan. Stephanie Evanovich has a way of luring me readers, like me, deep into her world of fiction. Under the Table in one contemporary romance novel I highly recommend to all.
