Review: When a Rogue Meets His Match

When a Rogue Meets His Match (Greycourt, #2)

The second novel in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Elizabeth Hoyt’s Greycourt Series features an enemies-to-lovers romance with her signature blend of captivating characters and sensual romance.

Ambitious, sly, and lethally intelligent, Gideon Hawthorne has spent his life clawing his way up from the gutter. For the last ten years, he’s acted as the Duke of Windemere’s fixer, performing the most dangerous tasks without question. Now Gideon’s ready to quit the duke’s service and work solely for himself. But Windermere wants Gideon to complete one last task, and his reward is impossible to resist: Messalina Greycourt’s hand in marriage.

Witty, vivacious Messalina Greycourt has her pick of suitors. When Windermere summons Messalina to inform his niece that she must marry Mr. Hawthorne, she is appalled. But she’s surprised when Gideon offers her a compromise: as long as she plays the complacent wife, he promises to leave her alone until she asks for his touch. Since Messalina is confident that she’ll never ask Gideon for anything, she readily agrees. However, the more time she spends with Gideon, the harder it is to stay away.

Rating: 5-stars

When a Rogue Meets His Match by Elizabeth Hoyt is an exciting, dangerous, yet sexy read. This is a historical novel readers don’t want to miss! From the beginning, there was constant danger from the enemies and danger of falling in love. A young woman who has a huge dowry is stuck with an evil uncle. A man who wants her money but not her. Unlike the man he has hired to his dirty work, the hired man wants everything to do with the most stubborn yet brave woman. Gideon is a hard man but then again life has shaped him that way. He’s the hero every woman would love to meet. The heroine, Messalina, is stronger than her enemies know. That’s one of things Gideon loves about her. She is the lightness to his dark world. The man is hopelessly in love with her. At first, she does everything she can to push away from him. He scares her. But the longer she’s with the handsome brute, she starts to like him more. It isn’t until she’s about to lose him forever that she realizes just how much she truly does love the man…a man who got under her skin as much as she did to him.

Overall, this was an epic historical novel. I loved everything about the book. There was plenty of action, tension, and surprises to me hooked. The romance was hot and blossoming on every page. It could be felt from both characters even if one of them denied pursuing the attraction. Clever, bold, and steamy When a Rogue Meets His Match was well-written. Elizabeth Hoyt has won over my attention. I can’t wait to read her next book.
