Q: When did you decide to become a writer?
I always thought it would be cool to be a writer, but since I didn’t know anyone who wrote fiction–let alone made a living at it–it took until my late twenties before I gained the confidence to try my hand at writing romance. I was quickly hooked!
Q: What inspired you to create your novel, The Bluebird Bakery?
Taylor, the heroine of the story, was q practical, down-to-earth side character in book one of the series, The Forever Farmhouse. Cody, the hero, showed up in book one dressed as Santa Claus and rappelling out of a helicopter to bring presents to kids! The contrast in their personalities made me want to bring them together.
Q: How would describe your writing style?
Sweet and very emotional!
Q: What was the journey like for you as you were writing, editing, and publishing your book?
This was one of the few books where I got a little blocked. It was a more complicated storyline, featuring two sisters and their parallel love stories. I did some brainstorming and made a collage (which you can see on my website), and the story came easily after that.
Q: When will this new novel be released and where can readers buy it?
It’ll be released on January 10th and will be available at all the major online retailers as well as Barnes and Noble, Walmart, and other big-box stores.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring writers in your genre?
The best advice is to read a lot. It’s the best and most fun way to soak up story lines and writing style which you can then make your own. Once you start writing your own story, don’t give up! It can take a while to hone your craft and get published, but there is no better career on the planet! The hard work is definitely worth it.
Q: Would you ever write books in any other genre?
I’ve always wanted to write a cozy mystery!
Q: What were your favorite moments as a writer when working on your book?
Well, since it’s a book about a bakery, I did have to do a lot of baking and sampling!
