New Edge-of-Your-Seat Read from an Established Romantic Suspense Author
Kate O’Brien has been leading a quiet life in small-town Shelter Cove, Arkansas, for the past four years when her past suddenly comes roaring back to life. Four years ago, she and her twin sister were attacked by an elusive serial killer. Only Kate survived, and it was her drawing of the attacker–along with some last-minute evidence–that convicted the suspect.
She’s been in witness protection ever since, but new evidence suggests the convicted man isn’t the murderer and she’s been subpoenaed to testify in the new trial. Nervous about the risk, she’ll only agree if the same marshal who protected her during the original trial escorts her to St. Louis.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Tony DeLuca accepts the assignment to bring Kate to the trial, remembering how her strength impressed him. While in Shelter Cove, however, he gets a call from his chief, advising them to stay in Shelter Cove until a new development in the case can be straightened out. But when Kate’s safety is threatened, Tony must race against the clock to keep her alive and put this ugly case to rest before anyone else gets killed.
Dark Deception by Nancy Mehl is an interesting romantic suspense. I enjoyed following a woman whose life turns upside down once again. Her past is colliding with the present. A murderer is on the loose and she’s a witness. Yet, as she is being called to testify once more, danger lingers in the air.
Every page is full of suspense. Intriguing story. One man mistaken as the killer. An innocent’s life is in jeopardy and it’s up to one man to save her. Tony is attracted to Kate. He takes his job of protecting her full blast when danger strikes. Deadly, stunning, and cleverly written. Dark Deception fits this book well. It covers the novel perfectly. I was hooked. Some romance, tons of action, and heart racing moments. The pages flew by fast. The plot is well-developed. Nancy Mehl has lured me into her fiction once again. Overall, I recommend this to readers everywhere.
Dee Henderson Pens Another Compelling Cold Case Mystery
Evie Blackwell’s reputation as a top investigator for the Illinois State Police has landed her an appointment to the governor’s new Missing Persons Task Force. This elite investigative team is launched with plenty of public fanfare. The governor has made this initiative a high priority, so they will have to produce results–and quickly.
Evie and her new partner, David Marshal, are assigned to a pair of unrelated cases in suburban Chicago, and while both involve persons now missing for several years, the cases couldn’t be more different. While Evie opens old wounds in a close-knit neighborhood to find a missing college student, David searches for a private investigator working for a high-powered client.
With a deep conviction that “justice for all” truly matters, Evie and David are unrelenting in their search for the truth. But Evie must also find answers to the questions that lie just beneath the surface in her personal life.
Threads of Suspicion by Dee Henderson is a deep Chase after the truth. Missing persons cases are being investigated and the blur between work and personal lives will blur. The pressure to solve them is high. As the cold cases connect with one another and with other cold cases, the duo team has their hands full. Murders…old wounds…and an engaging plot. Mystery, intrigue, and some romance. I enjoyed following Evie and her partner David as they went about getting answers. I haven’t read any previous novels by this talented writer, but I am happy that I read this book. After reading Threads of Suspicion, I look forward to reading more by the bestselling writer, Dee Henderson.
Overwhelmed by the responsibilities of running a ranch on her own, Laurel Tracey decides to hire a convict—a man who’s just scary enough to take care of squatters and just desperate enough to agree to a one year post.
The years following the war have been hard on Laurel Tracey. Both her brother and her father died in battle, and her mother passed away shortly after receiving word of their demise. Laurel has been trying to run her two hundred acre ranch as best she can.
When she discovers that squatters have settled in her north pasture and have no intention of leaving, Laurel decides to use the last of her money to free a prisoner from the local jail. If she agrees to offer him room and board for one year, he will have to work for her to pay off his debt.
Former soldier Thomas Baker knows he’s in trouble when he finds himself jailed because he couldn’t pay a few fines. Laurel’s offer might be his only ticket out. Though she’s everything he ever dreamed of in a woman—sweet and tender-hearted, yet strong—he’s determined to remain detached, work hard on her behalf, and count the days until he’s free again.
But when cattle start dying and Laurel’s life is threatened, Thomas realizes more than just his freedom is on the line. Laurel needs someone to believe in her and protect her property. And it isn’t long before Laurel realizes that Thomas Baker is far more than just a former soldier. He’s a trustworthy hero, and he needs more than just his freedom—he needs her love and care too.

Still Life by Dani Pettrey was incredible. It has everything I expected, plus more. Murder, investigation, a crime chase, and romance. That and it was written in a way that combined Christian and suspense together. The blend was perfect. The main characters brought the story to life. Every page was intense. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Dani Pettrey captured a realistic couple dealing with life threatening issues. One was a photographer and the other a crime scene analyst. With their skills, a murderer will be caught. Then, there’s the romance building between them…made this book an explosive read. Enticing, highly engaging, and entertaining. Still Life is indeed just that…it describes the murder exactly. The way the corpse was posed to lure out those close to the victim…it was pure genius. Overall,I highly recommend this writer’s work to readers everywhere. First novel, I have read by her and already I am looking forward to reading more.
Gould’s Series Concludes in Love and Marriage
Gregarious Rose Lehman, who’s always the life of the Amish youth singings, is determined to marry the bishop’s son, Reuben Byler–until the handsome Army buddy of her future brother-in-law shows up in Lancaster County. In comparison to Trevor, Reuben seems downright boring. Trevor shares Rose’s sense of fun and adventure, and her easygoing disposition.
When her sister Lila’s buggy is rear-ended and Lila is horribly injured, Rose finds herself with more freedom than she’s ever experienced. Everyone is so concerned about Lila that no one realizes Rose is sneaking out with Trevor. Except for Reuben. But in his usual passive way, he doesn’t confront her, nor does he address the situation with her Dat or anyone else in the district. Rose appreciates Reuben’s discretion, but she also resents it. Part of her relishes the freedom she’s found with Trevor, but the other part of her wishes Reuben would “fight” for her, as much as any Amish man would. Too late, she realizes the foolish choice she’s made. Has she ruined her best chance at love, or is there another path to happiness she just hasn’t seen yet?
Amish Weddings by Leslie Gould is a must read. This engaging tale is unlike most Amish stories that I have read. It’s plot was unique. Inside, readers will find a lot of action, big families, and choices to make. The main characters have so much in common, I thought it would be a simple life for them. However, as in real life, things change. A young woman wanted marriage right away. But it didn’t happen. She felt a bit rebellious and believed in the wrong man. The one wrong man who made her pregnant. Despite her new life change, she grows as a woman. Doesn’t give up her faith and becomes kinder. Before, she only thought about a man’s riches and now, she doesn’t. All she has to do is put her faith back in God. God always helps. Blessings of all sorts happen within these pages. Beautifully written and highly realistic. I can actually see everything happening for real. Real choices and real world issues. Growing up, maturity, and love are just a few themes masterfully woven in Amish Weddings. Overall, I highly recommend Leslie Gould’s latest novel to readers worldwide. It’s sweet and emotionally entertaining.
Jennings Offers Another Delightful Blend of History and Romance
Betsy Huckabee might be a small-town girl, but she has big-city dreams. Writing for her uncle’s newspaper will never lead to independence, and the bigger newspapers don’t seem interested in the Hart County news. Trying a new approach, Betsy pens a romanticized serial for the ladies’ pages, and the new deputy provides the perfect inspiration for her submissions. She’d be horrified if he read her breathless descriptions of him, but these articles are for a newspaper far away. No one in Pine Gap will ever know.
Deputy Joel Puckett didn’t want to leave Texas, but this job in tiny Pine Gap is his only shot at keeping his badge. With masked marauders riding every night, his skills and patience are tested, but even more challenging is the sassy journalist lady chasing him.
For the Record by Regina Jennings is a engaging historical read. I love the chase inside this tale. A young woman dreams of being a big writer. However, to get there she will need something much more interesting to publish. That is where Deputy Joel Puckett comes in hand. He’s the star of her writing career. However, her writing may just come with a price that may affect the deputy. The more time she spends chasing him the more Betsy Huckabee likes him. Funny, sweet, and beautifully told. Regina Jennings has captured my attention. Her characters have a way of pulling me deeper into their story. Believable, entertaining, and suspenseful. This romance will keep readers turning the pages until they finish it. After reading this novel, I fell in love with the writer’s work. Her writing style is fun, clever, and masterfully woven. I can’t wait to read more by Regina Jennings. Overall, I highly recommend For the Record to readers everywhere.

A Lady Unrivaled by Roseanna M. White is an intriguing tale. One that involves a rather handsome Lord that he believes incapable of falling in love. For the life of she can’t stop thinking about the handsome yet charming Lord. Despite his efforts to keep her at bay. No Way Up by Mary Connealy is by far the most heated, intriguing and clean romance that I have read. The heat and chemistry send off enough sparks to light a fire. There’s enough sibling rivalry that left me laughing so hard. Danger is found on every page. The plot is fast-paced. I enjoyed following a story that involved a family being brought together again. Family, courage, love, and faith are all themes of this riveting novel. I found myself lost within the pages instantly.
This was the first novel, I have read by Mary Connealy. Her talent is raw and impressive to all. The characters are so different from each other but hold the same values. The life threatening situation of a father having been seriously injured and may not live…the siblings are now, left to full-fill their father’s wishes. If they don’t the land, money, and all will go to a much hated and despised family member. Then, there’s a ranch hand who has fallen in love with the boss’s daughter. But until the accident with her father, the woman hasn’t spent much thoughts on him. After all, he’s just a lowly cowhand. But once the danger has crept upon them all, the lowly cowhand stayed to help the family. A family that has grown to respect him. Learning how family life worked, the cowhand now thinks of trying to go back to see his brothers. But first, they must all live through the danger and even lay out their hearts. Will they survive or fall apart? Overall, I highly recommend No Way Up to all. A Christian romance that readers won’t want to miss.
