Review: The Summer I Met Jack by Michelle Gable

Synopsis:

New York Times bestselling author imagines the affair between JFK and Alicia Corning Clark – and the child they may have had.

Based on a real story – in 1950, a young, beautiful Polish refugee arrives in Hyannisport, Massachusetts to work as a maid for one of the wealthiest families in America. Alicia is at once dazzled by the large and charismatic family, in particular the oldest son, a rising politician named Jack.

Alicia and Jack are soon engaged, but his domineering father forbids the marriage. And so, Alicia trades Hyannisport for Hollywood, and eventually Rome. She dates famous actors and athletes and royalty, including Gary Cooper, Kirk Douglas, and Katharine Hepburn, all the while staying close with Jack. A decade after they meet, on the eve of Jack’s inauguration as the thirty-fifth President of the United States, the two must confront what they mean to each other.

The Summer I Met Jack is based on the fascinating real life of Alicia Corning Clark, a woman who J. Edgar Hoover insisted was paid by the Kennedys to keep quiet, not only about her romance with Jack Kennedy, but also a baby they may have had together.

Review:

The Summer I Met Jack by Michelle Gable is a great read. It is based off some realistic events. I found that part intriguing. My mind spun with how would those characters have survived, done, and moved forward. The consequences of their actions and the choices they have made will affect them like a domino affect. The book was similar to some soap opera themes but had a real life tune. There was plenty of drama, sacrifices, and emotions that flew across the pages. I was deeply entertained. The intensity and curiosity of what would happen to and between both Jack and Alicia caught me.

This novel was historically interesting. Michelle Gable did her research into the whole affair JFK and Alicia Corning Clark. The writing was engaging. I could not stop reading her book. The more I got into it, the more I had to read it. There was and still is a mystery surrounding the real historical events and the ones in the novel. I loved that! A romance that soon turned forbidden, and then distorted and kept hidden in such a way tha no one really knows the answers was appealing to me. Overall, I recommend The Summer I Met Jack to all readers.

Review:

The Amish Christmas Candle is a great collection. Not my overall favorite. The stories are more modern living than the Amish way of living. I did enjoy how each character found happiness, hope, love, and healing.

Snow Shine on Ice Mountain by Kelly Long is a sweet yet inspiring Amish romance. Two young people who learn what love really is. Gray realizes love is peace and he’s never felt peace with any other girl except for Naomi. Naomi is a bit older than gray and very plain looking. But her heart, mind, and soul, are worthy of any man’s heart. Gray comes to realize that Naomi is the one. Naomi starts to feel like a wanted woman with Gray. But can she trust her heart to him? Kelly Long’s short story felt believable. It wasnt like other Amish tales I’ve read. Most wouldn’t allow the things that each character did without a chaperone or without some kind of consequence. However, it was sweet, engaging, and heartfelt. Gray not only finds peace but love and healing, too.

A Honeybee Christmas by Jennifer Beckstrand is another entertaining short story. I liked how one English woman left her way of life to raise her three nieces as Amish women. That took a lot of strength, determination, and power. Imagine leaving the life you have now, to live a plain simple one…I don’t think I could do it. I may enjoy it, but I would miss a lot of things. The writer brought an untraditional tale and still gave it a heart tugging feeling. I warmed up to the main characters. Overall, it was realistic and a great adventure.

The Christmas Candle by Lisa Jones Baker is the last Amish tale inside this collection. I felt the Christmas holiday sweeping over me. The pages went by quickly. Excitement rushed through me as I read every page. Filling me with a sweetness that I couldn’t let go. The main characters were enjoyable to follow. Both having faith in God. This story was more traditional in the Amish setting than the previous tales before it. I really loved this one. Giving back to the community, learning to trust, and not giving up hope are great themes found, here. Lisa Jones Baker created a piece that I fell in love with…overall, I highly recommend reading The Christmas Candle to all.

Review: Cinderella’s Cowboy

Synopsis:

Instead of a shoe… a kitten!

Chad Anders doesn’t know why mousy Cynthia Henley trips all over her tongue when she’s around him. Nor does he understand his undeniable attraction to this good girl. Wild and sexy is his type, like the dream-girl he caught a glimpse of years earlier he’s never forgotten.

Cynthia’s superpower is invisibility, especially with men. It’s better for everyone that way. Besides, she’s got a cat. She’s okay. But when playboy-rancher Chad hires her, she’s got a chance to shine. Professionally, at least. Until she learns of his fascination with a mysterious dream-girl, who was actually nothing more than a shy teenager on an ill-advised dare all those years ago. Cynthia knows she’s no man’s dream-girl and never will be.

But there’s magic at the ball. Princesses glow in the starlight, princes appear out of nowhere, and, sometimes, they look a lot like cowboys…

My Review:
Cinderella’s Cowboy is an original yet realistic twist on the all time favorite story. A small-town contemporary romance, that will leave all inspired. Cowboys are hot in the romance genre, and Roxanne Snopek definitely knows how to bring her readers a real and romantic tale. One that will tug at their hearts and leave them waiting for the next great masterpiece. There’s always an adventure when one’s heart is put on the line. Here, we see how one’s dreams are nothing like what one’s heart really desires. A tough woman, who believe’s she’s invisible, when it comes to men and yet…somehow, she is capable of roping in a man without him even realizing it. They both both don’t realize what they want is much more difficult, when what they need is right there in front of them.
Roxanne Snopek has beautifully created a heart warming romance that all will love. Her characters are like a contradiction to themselves. Cythnia thinks no man can see her as a woman, yet one particular cowboy does see her and is left pondering about her a lot. Then there’s Chad, who sees himself with a hot wild woman, yet there’s a good girl right in front of him and he is feeling…a tug towards her. Maybe it’s her personality that attracts him to her like a moth to a flame or maybe it’s just the way she reacts around him. Cythina is similar to Cinderella in the way, that she works all the time. That and she was the plain looking sister, who might just snatch herself a hot man after all. A woman can dream. Cinderella’s Cowboy is a modern western tale, that readers can easily connect with and are left wondering as to what will happen between a notorious playboy and a good girl. Overall, I highly recommend this enchanting romance to all.

My Rating: 5 stars

My Review:

Intimate by Kate Douglas was my first read by this talented writer. It doesn’t suprise me, that she’s a bestseller. Her words are enchanting and the chemitry is like fire that ripples through you right from the pages themselves. The words will leave readers blushing. Intimate is exactly what goes on between the characters. They hardly know one another, yet they get to know each other very intimately. Jake is the male that knows what he wants and will have nothing but Kaz as his. Something raw and completely powerful lures him to a former model who is now needing a way to make it through life and Jake offers her that. But something much deeper connects them both and before they know it danger is lurking around the corner. I loved reading this brilliant suspensful story and it heat will keep you up all night long. Intimate is indeed one of the best romances I have read. Overall, I highly recommend her novel to readers everywhere, and I look foward to the next exciting adventure from Kate Douglas.
